Project Hail Mary
First book ive read in a long time. Thanks to 현선. And it made me think a lot about relationships and friendships. Two species communicating and understanding each other and cooperating towards a shared goal. The relationship begins out of pure curiosity. Curiosity of meeting a foreign lifeform, just like when we get curious meeting a person for a first time wether that motivation comes from sexual attraction or a desire to know that person better. They go through a stage of communication, a stage of getting to know each other better, understanding one another and embracing the differences and learning from them. And they develop their relationship deeper by working together towards a shared goal. And in the end, love for each other matures to the point of sacrificing oneself to self the other. I would say this book isnt mostly about sci-fi, but about relationships, it gives you blueprint on the attitudes you should have when getting into a relationship, cautious, alert, yet full of positive curiousity. You get to know the other part, and they get to know you, well fortunatly for intra human interactions, language barrier and body language barrier or should you say species barrier does not exist, and it makes this state much more easier, yet most are still unskilled at it as they never practice and sharpens it. And as both parties feel the genuine goodness in the opposite party, they start to open up, they start to care for each other as the relationship gets deeper. Of courrse, there exists a danger, a risk that the interaction completly destroys you, wether from heartbreaks or well from unknown alien life. However that caring, deep relationship never begins if you dont ever take such risks, and once you succeed, that reward would far outweigh what you initially thought as crushing, permanent risk. So go out there, meet new people(or whatever lifeform), take risk of getting to know them, and hopefully you will find your Rocky.
